Il Circolo dei Piccoli

Our aim is to provide for our ‘piccoli’ a fun, safe and interesting learning environment for the Italian language. We aim to teach through songs, games and role play.

At present, the sessions are led by Serafina Venticinque-Jones who, together with Gina  and a couple of JCG ‘A’ level students, run the current ‘Circolo dei Piccoli’ which has been running in its current format since May 2014.

The Circolo, provides all the resources required for the children in the classroom.

The venue for these lessons is the Jersey College for girls. Lessons are held in the Modern Foreign Languages department.

From time to time, we organize an outing of some kind , usually three times a year; for example, a trip to the zoo, an outing to make pizza, a picnic etc etc

At Easter and Christmas the children receive a small gift. Where possible we try to link this with Italian customs.

Last year was a special year for the ‘piccoli’ as they learnt to dance the ‘Tarantella’ and to sing ‘Siamo Italiani’; they all had a fabulous time being involved in our Italian Festival in May 2017 and were excited to sing and dance for the public. At Christmas, as always, the children start of the Christmas lunch festivities with their singing.

It is always a great way to start the Christmas season!

This year, they will be involved in the Battle of flowers where,  they will accompany the flag wavers that are coming over from Italy for the Parade.  Hopefully, they will have a fabulous time and be proud of their heritage once again.

At present, we have 15 children ranging from the ages of 4 to10 who attend the sessions.  Unfortunately, as they get older, school activities and revision get in the way. Children are now waiting for the September school term so that they can also join us.

We are now looking for someone to take over the responsibility for these sessions as of September 2018.  If there are any Italian teachers or native speakers who would like to take responsibility for this very worthwhile and enjoyable commitment to our ‘piccoli’, please contact us as soon as possible to discuss your availability.

Lessons run weekly at school term time. However, we tend to start a week after term starts and finish a week before term ends. At present, lessons are on a Tuesday from 3.45 until 4.30.

We look forward to hearing from anyone who thinks they may be able to contribute to this very worthwhile ‘Circolo dei piccoli’. It is very important that our children grow learning about their heritage and meeting others who have a similar background (sometimes they are at the same school, and same class and do not know each other).

Il nostro obiettivo è creare per i nostri 'piccoli' un ambiente di apprendimento divertente, sicuro e interessante dove possano imparare la lingua italiana in modo leggero,  giocando e divertendosi.

Al momento, le lezioni sono organizzate da Serafina Venticinque-Jones che, insieme a Gina e a un paio di studenti di JCG gestiscono l'attuale "Circolo dei Piccoli" . Le lezioni si sono tenute in questo modo fin dal maggio 2014.

Il Circolo fornisce tutte le risorse necessarie per le lezioni dei bambini.

La sede di queste lezioni è il dipartimento di Lingue straniere moderne presso il Jersey College for Girls.

Di tanto in tanto organizziamo delle piccole gite, di solito 3 volte l’anno; ad esempio, una visita allo zoo, o un pomeriggio per imparare a fare la pizza, un picnic nel parco ecc. A Pasqua e Natale i bambini ricevono un piccolo regalo. Quando possibile proviamo a coinvolgere i bambini in eventi legati alla tradizione italiana.

L'anno scorso è stato un anno speciale per i “piccoli”: hanno imparato a ballare la "Tarantella" e a cantare "Siamo Italiani”. Sono stati tutti coinvolti nel Festival italiano tenutosi a maggio 2017, entusiasti di cantare e danzare per il pubblico di Jersey. A Natale, come sempre, i bambini aprono le feste del pranzo di Natale cantando: sempre un ottimo modo per iniziare il periodo natalizio!

Quest'anno saranno coinvolti nella Battaglia dei fiori, dove accompagneranno gli sbandieratori che saranno ospiti dall'Italia per la Parata. Ci auguriamo che sia un’esperienza favolosa per i bambini e che siano orgogliosi della loro eredità italiana!

Attualmente abbiamo 15 bambini di età compresa tra i 4 e i 10 anni che frequentano le lezioni. Purtroppo, crescendo, le attività scolastiche ed extra-curricolari aumentano. I bambini aspettano con ansi l’inizio di settembre per poter ricominciare.

Stiamo quindi cercando qualcuno che voglia insegnare a partire da settembre 2018. Se tra di voi ci sono insegnanti di madrelingua italiana che vogliono dedicarsi all’insegnamento nella scuola dei “piccoli", vi preghiamo di contattaci, il più presto possibile per discutere della vostra disponibilità.

Le lezioni si tengono settimanalmente ogni martedì tra le 15.45 e le 16.30; di solito iniziano una settimana dopo l'inizio dell’anno scolastico e terminano una settimana prima.

Non vediamo l'ora di essere contattati da chiunque pensi di poter contribuire al "circolo dei piccoli". È molto importante che i nostri figli conoscano la cultura italiana e incontrino altri che hanno un background simile.
